"BALTIC BEVERAGES HOLDING" (BBH)
was founded in 1991 by two companies - "Hartwall" (Finland) and "Pripps
(Sweden) - Ringnes" (Norway) (the latter being the part of the industrial
group "Orkla") in order to invest into emerging beer-and-non-alcoholic
beverages markets.
In 2000, the Danish brewing company
"Carlsberg" purchased the shares of brewing companies from Orkla. These
two companies combined their interests in a stronger structure - "Carlsberg
Breweries" (60% of shares going to "Carlsberg" and 40% - to "Orkla"). In
2002 "Hartwall" sold its BBH shares to British company "Scottish & Newcastle"
("S&N"). And in March, 2004 "Carlsberg" bought out 40% of "Carlsberg Breweries"
shares from "Orkla". Nowadays BBH is owned 50/50 by "Carlsberg Breweries"
("Carlsberg") and "Scottish & Newcastle" ("S&N").
BBH owns the biggest brewing companies in
the Baltic countries: in Estonia ("Saku"), in Latvia ("Aldaris"), in Lithuania
("Svyturus Utenus Alus" including "Klaipeda" and "Utena"); in Russia
("Baltika" group in St. Petersburg, Tula, Rostov-on-Don, Samara, Khabarovsk;
"Yarpivo" group; "Pikra" group; "Vena" group; in Kazakhsatn ("Derbis").
In Ukraine Baltic Beverages Holding owns Open Joint Stock Company "Slavutich"
with breweries in Zaporozhye and Kiev and Open Joint Stock Company
"Lvivska Brewery" in Lviv.
BBH is one of the biggest brewing
companies in Europe with about 15,000 employees. BBH headquarters is
situated in Stockholm (Sweden). Christian Ramm-Schmidt is the President
of BBH.
The strategy of BBH is to achieve market
leadership in the territories in which it conducts business. BBH is the
major shareholder in all the companies - it invests into technology and
know-how, raising the quality of their beer to Western standards,
strengthens sales, marketing and distribution systems and develops the local
personnel. All BBH enterprises develop independently, aiming at
satisfaction of all shareholders`, consumers`, and personnel's requirements.
